Grants

Finding the right grants depends on recognizing which types of support
align with your organization’s current priorities.

What Are the Most Common Grants Available for Nonprofits?

Capacity-Building Grants

These grants assist nonprofits in growing areas that require additional funding by focusing on process improvements and investments rather than specific projects.

Conditional Grants

These funds are awarded to nonprofits upon meeting specific expectations and conditions, with pre-agreed restrictions between the funder and the nonprofit.

Endowment Grants

These provide funding to nonprofits earning interest from foundations. An endowment fund typically receives contributions from grantors based on milestones and may include support for governance standards.

Facilities and Equipment Grants

Also known as capital grants, these cover costs associated with facilities owned by nonprofits. Government grants are particularly common for equipment, building, and infrastructure support.

Project Grants

These grants support nonprofit activities, programs, and the specific outcomes outlined in the application process. Restrictions often apply regarding the timing and usage of grant funds.

Operating Fund Grants

These are designed for established nonprofits seeking assistance with operational expenses, targeting organizations that manage monthly finances independently.

Research Grants

These funds support nonprofits engaged in learning and exploring new insights, covering research costs to achieve intended outcomes.

Technical Assistance Grants

These grants fund expert support in various fields that a nonprofit may require to fill gaps, including legal, financial, accounting, marketing, and other essential functions.

In-Kind Grants

These support nonprofits not with cash but through resources such as vehicles, technology, facilities, and services.
